:: Maldives woos Middle East travelers

A roadshow led by the Maldives Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) kicks off this week to promote the destination to the UAE's major travel operators

The initiative, supported by Qatar Airways, is part of the MTPB's efforts to develop greater levels of in-bound tourism and signals its strong commitment to building a solid GCC-wide tourism proposition.

Leading the roadshow is Mohamed Adam, Assistant Director, MTPB along with Najumulla Shareef, Assistant Marketing Officer, MTPB as well as representatives from White Sands Resorts & Spa, Crown Tours and Capital Travel and Tours .

“The GCC is a relatively untapped market for us” said Mohamed Adam, Assistant Director, MTPB “And in order to increase market share we need to penetrate this region to showcase the serene natural environment of the Maldives as a prime destination for the GCC traveller. We are justifiably proud of our service standards and our superb choice of luxury resorts. Our aim is to promote the wide range of accommodation options we have to everyone from Arabic families and honeymooners to couples and expat families”

With daily flights and a short flight time the Maldives continues to be a very appealing and accessible destination for the GCC market. It has become the ultimate getaway for those who are attracted by the idea of a pristine tropical island with swaying palm trees, pure white beaches and brilliant turquoise lagoons and for those seeking respite from the frantic pace of life in this region.

Nicki Page, Executive Director of Fusion Marketing Management, the Dubai-based market representative company for the Ministry, which organized the event said “Over the past 30 years, tourism has played a vital role in the sustained development of the Maldives economy. And, although blessed with natural beauty, this alone does not account for the remarkable run of success that the country had enjoyed. This is down to the vision of the entrepreneurs, the commitment of those engaged in the sector, government policy and the support of the entire nation, all of which has played a crucial role in that achievement.”

Starting in Dubai on June 3rd at the Sheraton Creek, the roadshow will move to Le Royal Meridien, Abu Dhabi on June 4th and then to Riyadh on June 6th June and finally to Jeddah June 7th.
