Australian surfer Luke Munro today broke through for his first World Qualifying Series win yesterday by posting four outstanding 9 point scores through his semi final and finals. It's Munro's third year on the World Qualifying Circuit and this is his first major open win following numerous finals placings.
According to the organisers of the event, the surf at Pasta Point was typically excellent for the finals, which has become the norm for this event in the Maldives . Almost all surfers on the World Circuit cite the Maldives event as one of the very best because it consistently delivers quality surf in an amazingly warm, friendly tropical environment.
The closing ceremony to celebrate the success of the event was set at Dhonveli Beach Resort & Spa last night and was attended by the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Dr. Mahamood Shaugee and representatives from all sponsoring parties.
The Oakley presents Srilankan Airlines Pro WQS is organised and sponsored by ASP Australasia, SriLankan Airlines, Oakley , Maldives Tourism and Promotions Board and the Maldives Surfing Association.
